Three Kids Park Day

Through the experiences of lugging my 3 young kids around recently, I wanted to spend a park day with my 7 year old daughter E and 5 year old son C. Some dedicated big kid playtime was locked in for a weekend morning and I was excited. My 1 year old son L had other plans that clashed with what was scheduled. He wanted to come along too.

L heard about the plans and said he wanted to come too after breakfast. He climbed down from his chair and then walked over to the mud room door prepared to leave. He looked so eager that I couldn’t say no to him. So off we all went.

I brought goals for the soccer games we wanted to play and a kick board. We played in the huge field at first and ran around. C was having a blast, but E and L got bored quickly. They wanted to do something else, so I had to hedge and have them find rocks on the side. That somehow entertained them for a while.

E wanted to go to the playground, so we ended up there next. I had to follow around L, who was going all over the place. Places where no toddler should go. E and C ended up playing this game where they would toss the soccer ball up a hill lined with plants and trees. They would go and try to fetch it while navigating new paths. They had fun and eventually two other kids joined them.

After the long play session on the playground, it was time to go home for lunch. Although it was exhausting running around with my 3 young kids, I’m glad they had so much fun outside. As long as I drink some extra coffee in the morning, these sessions are definitely manageable.
