Funny Book
At night, I read to my 1 year old son L for 15 to 30 minutes. If I let him, he would want to read even longer if I don’t cut him off. It wasn’t always this way since he would fidget after a few minutes or when I got a few pages into a book. My other two kids loved reading and they were instantly glued to any book we read them. Thank goodness L eventually turned out the same way.
Usually, we have a stack of books that I usually read to him. He picks between a few and I love the books that rhyme since it is easy to read and memorize. For some reason, L is really into the Sandra Boynton books, which are short and sweet (and they rhyme!). The more books we read by her, the more he loved them. We add a few books to the rotation after a set period of time and ended up with Blue Hat, Green Hat on the queue one night.
This is a night where I wish I had a camera filming the first read of that book. The book is about how one animal can’t seem to get anything right when getting dressed. Every time I got to that animal and said oops, L would giggle so loudly. I couldn’t stop him from laughing! He did this on almost every page. I would point out what the animal did wrong, like putting pants on their head and that would cause him to laugh even more!
By the time we got to the end of the first read, he was so happy from laughing. We read that book a few more times with lots more laughing, but nothing as genuine or loud as that first read. Over time, it became a normal book with not much laughing. Eventually, that book fell out of the rotation. I’ll always remember that first read though and I would have loved to have that captured to rewatch it a million times. You never know when those kinds of moments come up, so soak it up when it happens!
