Sharing Hot Wheels
For some reason, my 5 year old son C has gotten back into Hot Wheels. We used to have a bunch of Hot Wheels and some big car carriers in the shape of a dragon and shark. They were pretty cool toys, but he never played with it. We ended up giving them all away and it turns out…we should’ve kept it.
He watches the shows and he knows his friends at school are really into it. I guess that’s what sparked his interest in it again and he has been working really hard on completing some morning chores to earn Hot Wheels (my wife’s idea). It works out in the sense that morning chores get completed, but it doesn’t work out in the sense that it creates more things for everyone to argue about.
My 2 year old son L also loves cars. He doesn’t understand what Hot Wheels are. Only that they are cars and he wants them. This has caused a lot of fighting between him and C. It’s gotten into a point where I want to take all of the cars away. It’s bad.
When C went to a playdate with one of his friends, his friend gave C a Hot Wheels car to take home. For some reason, C was thinking of L and brought the car to him. It was a bubble themed car that had a wand that you can dip into some soap to blow bubbles. It was pretty cool and L was super happy to get it.
For the next few days, there were still some arguments, but there was a lot more sharing happening. It wasn’t the best sharing, but at least it was progress. I guess progress is the best thing to hope for at this point since kids can’t flip a switch to be model citizens. That’s fine by me as long as things are moving in the right direction and that’s my job to make sure it does!
