Boogers On You

One morning over the weekend, my 1 year old son L did not wake up happy. I have been putting him to bed at night way too late and he wakes up cranky in the mornings. Some mornings, it’s extra bad.

This particular morning, we were all in the playroom after breakfast. L was upset that I wasn’t letting him have his way. He wanted to throw a tantrum and I told him no. Then the tears and screaming started.

I tried to make sure that he couldn’t get his way because he needs to struggle through following the rules and doing the right thing. If he always gets his way, he’s going to have the wrong view of how things work. Also, he definitely shouldn’t get his way if he’s screaming and crying.

I held my ground and L wiped his nose with his hand and screamed that he put boogers on me as he wiped his hand on one of my favorite hoodies I was wearing at the time. I looked down and sure enough there were boogers on me.

Eventually, he came to his senses and calmed down. Holding my ground did work, but now I had boogers on my sleeve. I think I’m still ahead on the scoreboard and if you ask me, boogers on my sleeve aren’t the worst thing to end up on clothing that I was wearing. That’s a win for me.
