School Award

My kids are mostly well behaved at school. Different story at home most days, but at school, I expect them to always come home with clean behavior feedback. Turns out that my 6 year old daughter was so well behaved that she won a school award that got announced over the intercom system.

My 5 year old son C was excited to hear his sister’s name and she was beaming when she came home. She told my wife who then told me. I was proud of her and most importantly, she was proud of herself. She earned the award by doing helpful things around the school.

Fast forward a few days and it turns out E had a system to catch the attention of certain people. She knew that someone had to be watching, so she strategically did things near those people that got a say in the award. There were lots of teachers and helpers that knew E was great and to her, it didn’t hurt to reinforce that in front of them. Of course she was also nice without their watchful eye and I’m impressed that she had the right strategy to get the award along the way. I taught her well!
