Rough Doctors Visit

My 1 year old son L has been having a rough few weeks. Between his surgery and a short stint at the hospital for a breathing issue, he has had enough of hospitals for a while. He did have one last checkup to make sure everything was going well last week and that was a rough visit.

My wife took him to the checkup and it wasn’t the visit itself that was rough. It was the fact that his pediatrician told us he had both an ear infection and pink eye. My wife did notice L starting to get what looked like pinkeye earlier in the morning and it was confirmed during the checkup. Having an ear infection on top of that was not fun either.

We have been lucky that our kids haven’t had to deal with an ear infection before. Because this is coupled with pink eye and L had gone through a bunch of other things previously, we ended up getting him on antibiotics to treat the issue. We are also lucky that L likes the antibiotics oddly. He doesn’t spit it out and the two doses a day we have to give him go down relatively well.

We are finally on the tail end of things and it was a long road. Once we are fully over this hump, we need to prep L for daycare next month, which includes nap training him and weaning him off of breast milk. My little guy is growing up so fast and I know I’ll miss all the times that I get to be around him all day every day. Being nap trapped is no fun, but I am going to appreciate the last few weeks of this even more since the hours long cuddle sessions won’t be as frequent.

At least he will learn how to be his own little person and I know he will have so much fun at daycare once he is used to it. The transitions aren’t fun, but settling into a rhythm is what makes things smooth in our household. We just need to get to the next set of updates in the routine and keep our fingers crossed that there aren’t many more ear infections (or pink eye!) ahead for L at daycare. One can hope!
