Mother’s Day

This Mother’s Day was a special one because we got through some really rough moments the last few weeks. Between some periods of crazy sickness, a bone fracture, a surgery, and breathing complications, it was a lot for our family, but we made it through together. I know I was feeling especially grateful and so was my wife.

The day usually starts with letting my wife sleep in. I made waffles for the kids to eat and my 1 year old son L is starting to really love the waffles. He doesn’t know they are packed with hemp seeds and chia seeds. He just loves the taste and I’m glad to have my kids start eating food that has “hidden” healthy ingredients.

We then play in the playroom and everyone is surprisingly playing well. My 6 year old daughter E and 4 year old son C have not had an argument all morning, which was unusual. They end up making a swimming pool with all the pillows and blankets. We dive in and eventually my wife comes into the room after some coffee. E and C give her a massage and E is so determined that she rubbed her skin raw on one of the fingers, which we slapped a band-aid on afterwards. She didn’t realize she that was happening as she massaged Mommy - the kid is determined, what can I say.

Afterwards, I take E and C to Costco so my wife can have a bit more quiet time. Then when I got back, it was a quick lunch and then I took the kids on a long walk. I was already pretty exhausted by then and lost my voice because of the night before (too much talking when we went out for a Mother’s Day dinner with my wife’s side of the family), so the kids played inside the rest of the day.

Got through another Mother’s Day where my wife got a lot of quiet time to reflect and recharge. I was tired as well from the day and so were the kids. Passed out early and feeling grateful that I have a crazy (and loud!) house full of crazy kids. All because of Mother’s Day.
