Car Lineup

I have been reading the Little Blue Truck books to my 1 year old son L for bedtime. My 5 year old son C was obsessed with them growing up and now his little brother is too. My 6 year old daughter also liked those books, especially Good Night Little Blue Truck. I read that to her all the time and she would get really excited (and sometimes drowsy).

There is a book called Little Blue Truck Leads the Way and it is about making sure there is order so the city doesn’t get gridlocked. L knows the trucks get in line and I try to point that out each time we get to that page. He also loves the cars and trucks that show up to get angry about the situation.

One night after reading those books many many times the previous nights, L starts to line up all the cars he plays with before we go to his room to read. He carefully lines each one behind the other one. Then he has a proud face when he finishes the line. He always admires his work and I admire him admiring his work.

It’s awesome to see things translate in their head and stick. It then gets easier and easier to teach him things since the foundation is getting wider. We can use lines to talk about shapes or pictures. It also helps to solve problems like in the Little Blue Truck Leads the Way book. I’m glad L likes reading so much because we can cuddle, learn, and make a beeline to dreamland afterwards!
