Arcade Birthdays

I remember when I was a kid, I loved birthdays spent at the arcades. It seemed like an awesome place to be and surrounded by tons of games and friends. I’m sure my now 6 year old son C feels the same way.

We set up his birthday at an arcade that also had laser tag. It was something that he did with his friends a while back for another birthday and he wanted to do the same thing. We invited his friends and followed the same birthday formula. The kids got their arcade cards and ran off.

The problem with being an adult is that you recognize when the time is up to move on to the next thing. It was 30 minutes in the arcade and then it was time for laser tag. We moved the kids to the setup location and then the kids were off playing. One of C’s friends got really scared, so he left the laser tag area and I got to put his pack on. For those few moments, I got to be a kid again and ran around. I lost track of time myself and it was a (laser) blast! When the smoke literally cleared, somehow C’s team won. I had no idea how that happened because I thought I had a million points playing against little kids. Maybe my pack wasn’t working?

Afterwards, it was a quick pizza and cake break for everyone. They also had mini corndogs that were surprisingly good. The kids ate a huge bowl of it. Then back to the arcade for those that wanted to stick around. I think all the kids had a lot of fun. The one thing that was hard was keeping the kids in the same area so they could actually hang out. Everyone sort of went their separate ways in all different directions, but since that happened, I got to spend some quality time with C driving a race car with max out stats. It was overall a pretty fun birthday for me…I mean C.
