4 Moments
Sometimes the routines we have cause time to blur together and then if you blink a few times, months or years have passed. It’s hard to slow that down since routines help my kids stay within the lanes they need to and it is also required to make sure everyone’s needs are met (with the caveat that they cannot fully take care of themselves…like my kids or doggo!). This is why I like to keep track of the small moments - especially 4 specific moments of a summer day.
The first moment was dropping my 7 year old daughter E off at artistic swim camp. She was doing another round of it and it was her first day of that session. She had a big smile (as always when she is around water) and I gave her a hug and kiss. I’m so proud of her for doing something that is so difficult - and she does it with a persistent and positive attitude.
The second moment was taking my 5 year old son C to soccer practice. His team was playing and the boys he is up against are huge (and much older). I love watching him compete and learn. I’m also so proud that he tries his best. It took a lot to get to this point where he put in his maximum effort (while having fun). Now we are just enjoying the ride!
The third moment was with my 2 year old son L. He is still trying to be like C and has soccer fever. He wore a full soccer kit and was blasting goals in the playroom after I set up a mini goal. Maybe running around right before bed isn’t the greatest thing, but it sure was fun!
The fourth moment was my doggo just curled up happy. He was sleeping and being lazy at night when the house was quiet. He is so cute when he is exhausted (otherwise he is a terror filled with energy drinks!).
Even though these kinds of days are routine, I want to try my best to remember the small moments. Slowing things down, appreciating everything, and enjoying it when on repeat is something I want to continue reminding myself of. It all passes so fast (or so I’m told…sometimes it is hard to believe….) and I am holding onto the routine and the moments that fill them.
