Soccer Tournament Round 2
My 6 year old son C had another soccer tournament a few weeks ago. It was his second one playing with the older boys. From the beginning, he looked more like himself and that was a relief.
It started with getting there early so we were not rushing around. I think C knew what to expect and he was getting used to being pushed around more than before. He was also used to not being able to get his shot off and was trying to figure out how to adjust. We had the whole family there for the day and it was only 2 games. That is doable without burning the whole day at the field.
The first game went about as expected. C was running around playing some good defense. He was also trying to score, but getting the ball taken from him or missing the shot. There really isn’t that much time to go anything, especially when the boys are huge compared to you. One of the boys seemed like he was an 8 year old and scored a lot of goals for the other team. The game was close though and I was glad to see C engaged most of the time.
The second game went even better. C was flying around and unfortunately, my 2 year old son L needed to go to the restroom. I had to take him and it was a struggle. Turns out he didn’t want to go with me and then I ran back to the field with him to watch C’s game. Right before I could see everything, I heard cheering. My wife was happy and apparently C scored a goal! I missed it! I was happy for him though and he really deserved it after working so hard across the two games.
This was a much funner experience for everyone since it was shorter, we knew what to expect, and everyone seemed to do their part! New things take some getting used to and these soccer tournaments are no exception, especially when the whole family is involved. Hope things get more routine and fingers crossed that any potty breaks do not interrupt the goal scoring because that would be a red card right away!
