Weekend Sleepover
Over the weekend, my niece came to sleep over at our place so she could play with my 7 year old daughter E, 5 year old son C, and honestly my 1 year old son L too at this point! It makes things so much easier for me and my wife.
Nighttime went about as well as you can expect. The kids stayed up really late (except for L who had his own bedroom) and woke up really early (except for L who had his own bedroom). When my niece sleeps over, E and C share the bed with her and they usually don’t get much sleep.
During the day, they all played really well together, including with L. It was really great and my wife and I got to do some errands around the house and squeeze in some workouts. We even got to watch a bit of TV, which was shocking.
L loved playing with my niece and E. He was upstairs with them for a while when C was downstairs watching TV with us. The girls tried to ditch L downstairs, which wasn’t very nice, but I get they wanted to play without a 1 year old around them for part of the day. I explained to E that if she wanted to leave L downstairs, at least take him over to Mommy and C since they were just around the corner. E understood and did that the second time around, which I was glad about.
After my niece went home, L woke up the next morning and asked for her. When we told him that she went home, he was distraught. He kept crying and asking for her. He wanted us to call her to come back over. He even asked us to video call her to see if he could see her. Eventually at night, we got a hold of her and L chatted with her for a few minutes. It didn’t fully fix things, but it settled L down a bit. It was kind of cute he was so attached to her.
All in all, it was a fun way to spend the weekend. I’m always glad when the kids have fun together. I’m especially glad when I get some free time as well because I don’t get very much of it!
