Mommy Nap Time
There were a few sessions during the weekend where I could not put my 1 year old son L to sleep. My wife had to do it and she usually is not the one who reads to L. L loves his Mommy so much and doesn’t want to miss time with her, so the nap time situation goes sideways many times.
L likes to read and cuddle with Mommy and usually cries when she puts him down. She also doesn’t read as many books as I do and has her own order of how she does things. Before putting L down, my wife also sings to him (which I don’t unless we are reading a song book) to try and soothe him. Whatever she ends up doing though, he cries by the time she sets him down.
One night when I had to go pick up my niece’s things so she could spend the night, my wife put L down. L was a bit sick and also overtired from the day. He was howling and crying so hard when my wife left the room. L definitely didn’t want Mommy to leave! I was hoping my wife would wait until I got back so I could put L to sleep, but she was in such a rush to do that and start his bedtime routine.
Luckily for us, L didn’t cry for long because he was so tired. He fell asleep a few minutes later and we could finally wind down after a hectic day. Putting L to sleep is one of my favorite things to do (as it was with all my other kids when they were younger) and it helps that L goes down much easier when I’m there. Win win.
