Weekend Race

My wife has been really into running the last few months. I’m really proud of her and it all started when I was secretly wanting the Peloton Tread. I didn’t think my wife would ever let me get it, but she somehow agreed. I was thinking that I would use it a lot more than her, but it has been the opposite…by far.

Originally when we got it, she was hesitant about the cost. I told her that if she used it at least 1-2 times a month, it would be worth it already since she was starting from a base of 0 times a month. I was also thinking I would use it a few times a month. Fast forward and she uses the Peloton Tread a few times a week and has ran multiple half marathons this year. She wanted to do a destination race on the weekend with one of her good friends, so of course I agree to it months ago and the weekend was finally here.

Off she went and I was left with our 3 kids. It wasn’t as chaotic as the previous time she left to see another friend. The kids were surprisingly great. There were a few rough patches (as expected), but my 6 year old daughter E stepped up to calm her 1 year old brother L down. He would sometimes throw a fit and she would run over there to hug him. My 5 year old son C was also amazing would dance and make silly faces to make L laugh. It was a team effort to get through the weekend without Mommy.

My wife was sick with a cough and she somehow still finished the race. It was also hot and she forgot her hat, so she came back tired, a bit sunburnt, but relieved it was done. The kids were really happy to see her and I think these trips are honestly getting a lot easier to manage since they are getting older. I’m encouraging her to take more trips and have something to look forward to, so next year, I’ll have to do the same when she runs the Chicago Marathon. I guess those nudges work!
