Soccer Fever

My 2 year old son L has caught soccer fever. He cannot stop wearing jerseys in the house and to school. He also loves playing with the soccer ball and wants to blast the ball like his 6 year old brother C. This is both cute and frightening.

The frightening part is that L needs to wear a jersey. It doesn’t matter if it is 5 sizes too big for him. He will borrow C’s jerseys or his 7 year old sister E’s jerseys. As long as it is a soccer jersey, he is good to go. When he doesn’t get a jersey to wear…watch out! There will be lots of screaming and it is so hard to teach L about the laundry cycle. He does not care that clothes need to be washed and dried. He only wants his jerseys!

The cute part is that he really loves to kick around the ball. He watches C kick around the ball upstairs and then tries to copy him. One day I was taking a shower and L came up with the soccer ball wanting to play with me. I told him I would be right out and that he should go to the playroom first to play with everyone else. He didn’t want to and sat there outside the shower until I was done. He wanted to wait for me to play! It was really cute and we played for a bit until he went to look for a jersey.

This is the cycle of a toddler and his soccer fever. I am glad that he likes being active and soccer is a fun sport to play as a kid. Hopefully he keeps at it and then plays with C when he is older. That would be the dream!
