Soccer Camp
Over the break, my wife and I signed up our two older kids to go to soccer camp for half the day. They were excited because they have been attending the various soccer programs by the coach that was running the camp. I was excited because they would have an outlet for half the day for their boundless energy.
A few days before camp, my 5 year old son C hurt his foot playing in an indoor playground with his friends. They were running around for almost 2 hours and my 7 year old daughter E wanted to leave a bit earlier since she was exhausted. I encouraged them to continue running around to get some more exercise and get their energy out, they listened. Now I regretted it.
Thank goodness over the next two days, C said his foot felt better. He was able to go to camp with E on the first day. They had so much fun and looked very sweaty when I picked them up! Fast forward to the last day of camp, the coach was giving out awards for who was the best listener, most helpful, and different other superlatives. E actually won the last soccer ball given out after the coach talked to some of his assistants and she was so happy. It may have helped that E was vocal about wanting to win a ball and I’m proud of her for using her voice. She also asked for a wrist band after she got her ball and doubled up!
After it was all over, we spent some time playing on the playground and kicked the ball around. It was a fun few extra minutes of enjoying the outdoors before rushing home for lunch. Overall, it was a successful camp for them and I’m so proud of them for working hard. I’m especially proud of E for using her voice and not being shy about what she is going for! Means I’m doing something right!
