Nighttime Potty Training
My wife is such a trooper. For the last few weeks, she had been trying to nighttime potty train our 5 year old son C. She was constantly getting woken up at night and having to deal with some accidents. I honestly don’t know how she even did it. Eventually, it also was too much and she needed to change the strategy.
She looked up online for solutions and found something that beeps loudly if it detects any moisture. I was very skeptical about this device, but she said that there were some clinical trials that proved that this worked. At this point, she was desperate for a solution and bought the device.
The first night, the device went off a few hours after C went to sleep. It was a full on accident and we ended up changing him and putting him back to sleep. The same thing happened a few hours later that first night. It was rough.
The next few days were about the same. It was two times a night and it was a varying degree of an accident. C was so tired as well from being woken up the last few weeks to change or potty. The device was also extra drying for him because it was really loud and caused him to wake up. We kept reminding him that we were proud of him for working so hard on this, and this was something that he wanted to accomplish.
To our surprise, by the end of the first week with the device…C somehow figured it out. I still don’t know what happened, but I think that the noise coupled with the sensation really helped his body merge the two concepts together to wake up if he needed to go potty. It was honestly a miracle and everyone was so happy, especially C. My wife and I were so proud of him because it was such a long winding road to get to this point. I also loved seeing how determined C was to reach his goal. It makes me extra proud that he can tough it through. If he can keep doing this in all aspects of his life, he will reach a lot of amazing heights.
