Morning Laundry

Mornings are usually hectic in my household. I can never quite predict what to expect since having 3 young kids is like playing the slot machine and crossing your fingers that through some miracle, it is going to land on a jackpot (aka a quiet morning). My 4 year old son C wakes up really early nowadays and tends to stir in bed for up to an hour. This wakes up my 6 year old daughter E most mornings. Any time either of them wake up, I wake up since I sleep on the floor of the room next to them. Then the fun times start.

One particular morning a few weeks ago, E and C both woke up early. They ended up wandering into my wife’s room to check on their 1 year old brother L. He of course wakes up and I’m thinking that chaos will once again break loose. Turns out, E and C decide to drag the laundry hamper to do some morning laundry. They ended up getting all of the clothes out and putting it in the washer. E has done this before and wants to learn all the steps to doing her own laundry because she wants to wear certain outfits (even when they are in the hamper). The steps where you put in laundry detergent and press the right buttons to start the machine aren’t known to her yet, but she is motivated to learn.

My wife ends up waking up and showing them how to complete the last few steps. C is always excited to learn more and follows E around all the time. I hope that their interest in playing house and doing some morning laundry leads to something great in the future where chores magically get done before I wake up in the morning. That would be a real jackpot.
