For Bread
My 1 year old son L is obsessed with bread. My 5 year old son C is obsessed with carbs too, but not to the same degree as L, especially when it comes to bread. If there is any bread within sight, L is screaming and whining for it until he gets it.
One morning a few weeks ago, I had to take my 7 year old daughter E and C to school. I usually take L to daycare on my way to work, but needed to change up the routine. This left my wife at home with the bread monster.
Of course, L started to scream for bread while I was gone. My wife told him he couldn’t scream for bread and that he needed to say please. L said no. My wife laid down the rules again. L said no. He wasn’t going to play her games to get bread. My wife laid down the rules one more time and reinforced that all he needed to do was say please. L started to think about his next move.
All of a sudden, L screamed PLEASEEEEEEEEE! My wife realized that he put together what he wanted to do with what she wanted to do. She started laughing and had to tell me right away. The first thought was that L is such a troll. I can’t believe he did that. My next thought was I wonder where he got that from…(me).
Apparently, he also verbalized that he screamed please, but he said the word. He followed the rules and wanted his bread. The kid got his bread we got a good story. Win win at the end.
