Dance Performance Day

My 7 year old daughter E performed in another dance performance over the weekend. She was working so hard on it and it was the first time I couldn’t bring her to a bunch of her afternoon dance classes in a long time. I didn’t get to see most of the dance, but the one class I did go to, I got a small preview of what was to come.

E was really excited as usual to try on her costume and go to the dress rehearsal. She has been through so many cycles of it that I don’t think she gets nervous anymore (or maybe the word is excited mixed with anxiousness to get out there on stage!). She knows what to expect and honestly, so do we. I also knew that my 5 year old son C was going to act out for some attention since that is what he does on every performance day. Like I said, it’s routine.

What was funny and interesting was that C remembered the stairs that we ran up and down the last time at the performance and asked to do that with me after we dropped E off backstage. We ran up and down the stairs while my wife was getting coffee and breakfast for us. It was good exercise, but I was tired!

We then went into the theater and C asked to play paper, scissors, rock with me (just like last time!). He even remembered the funny actions we do with our hands depending on what each person throws. We had fun playing before the dancing started. Then he tried to do his Pokemon sticker book in the dark (which was honestly a bad idea for the item/toy to bring). It was rough goings and thankfully we didn’t need to stay through intermission since E was in the first half of the performances.

When E got on stage, she had the biggest smile on her face since we were sitting in the front row. She could see us clearly and we were all so happy to see her dance! She was doing all her moves and looked so happy on stage! After she performed, intermission was soon after and we met up to take some quick pictures. She even snapped a photo with one of her friends she has done dance with for a few years as they were leaving with us. It was an efficient half day and C didn’t act out too much either. That’s a win.

We rushed back to get our 1 year old son L so we could put him down for a nap. Everything went so smoothly that it seemed to pass by so quickly. We didn’t have to stress out with getting to the venue on time, there was only one dance to prepare (and stay) for, and no kids having huge meltdowns. Seems like we are turning the corner in some areas and for that I will be grateful! I’ll also never get tired of watching E dance (and be happy on the stage!).
