A Perfect-ish Saturday
There was a particular weekend when I was gone for a while that I was able to fly back and be with my kids and wife. It was a much needed family session and I was excited to see them after being gone for so long. I was also a time where I wanted to enjoy every second of it because I knew I was leaving again in a few short days.
I ended up taking all of my kids to soccer on Saturday morning. They woke up to me being there, I made some breakfast, and off we all went. I dragged my 6 year old daughter E, 5 year old son C, and 1 year old son L with me and I was hoping to manage all of them without any tears.
When we got to soccer, I was just happy to be outside in the fresh outdoors with my kids. They started off the session being silly and playing games. I think it actually helps them love soccer and I’m glad that I am on the other side of things where my kids also like learning how to get better. C loves to scrimmage and he also has been dominating the 1 vs. 1 and 2 vs. 2 scrimmages. Something clicked in him and he is an animal now. I wanted him score goal after goal after goal. It was crazy and he even played tough against the older boys.
E was no slouch either. She was holding her own with the older boys she was playing against and also against the girls. She had two clutch blocks on goals that were about to go in. One of them was kicked away by E at the last possible second. She was really hustling hard and loves soccer.
L was the last puzzle piece and somehow he was very entertained with what was going on. He was watching his siblings and I was also playing with him on the side. He didn’t cry or scream at all. When he was looking in the sky, he saw an airplane and got so excited! When he pointed to it, I said airplane and made a flying sound while using a hand to simulate a plane flying. It’s something I do to teach him the words and their meaning. When he saw a real life plane for the first time, he just kept saying WOWOWOWOWOW! His eyes got so big and he had a huge smile on his face!
It was a perfect-ish Saturday and I was glad to be back. My older kids were so tired after soccer that they laid down for a few minutes to just recover (something that they have never done). Their tanks were truly on E and they were happy and exhausted. We just hung out there for a while just being together, even after all of the other soccer kids and parents left. It was a nice way to unwind after the session and one that I’ll remember for a while.
