Three Questions

My 1 year old son L is starting to talk so much. It is such a cute time because you can see his little brain developing. It is also not such a cute time because you can see his little brain hasn’t developed enough to logic out what I am trying to help him with before he has a meltdown. Such is the duality of the toddler brain.

L is starting to understand the family unit though and it is fascinating to see him slowly figure things out. He consistently asks me three questions - where his 5 year old big brother C is, where his Mama is, and where his 6 year old big sister is. He asks these three questions multiple times a day. They usually start in the morning if he hasn’t seen anyone else besides me. He then asks when I pick him up from daycare (or any activity). He then asks before I put him to sleep every night.

Over the last few weeks, his questions and speech have become clearer and clearer. He does ask the questions usually in the same order and he can’t quite say E’s name fully, but it is getting closer. My answers to where they are seem to be sticking also, especially when I tell him everyone else has gone to sleep for the night. Then he does the night night sign by tilting his head and putting it in one of his hands.

One day, he will move on to asking different questions as he becomes more curious. I’m sure he won’t even remember asking the same three questions multiple times a day, but one thing is very clear to me - he always wants to know where is family is and he clearly loves us all even if he doesn’t quite understand it. Best of all, when he asks where I am, I can say that I am here with him. That’s a bonus question.
