Soccer Goals x3
My 5 year old son C loves soccer and plays all the time. He plays at school with a bunch of older kids. He also plays in two separate leagues because he loves it so much. Since he has a lot of experience playing soccer, he is usually one of the best players on his team.
When he plays soccer during the week in one of his leagues, it isn’t as serious since most of the kids vary in experience. This is unlike the other league where there are a lot of soccer players that are as experienced as C. With all of the newer players sprinkled in, the coach often pairs up C with teammates that aren’t so great so the teams can be more balanced. This often leads to him playing against 4 other kids on the other team with little help.
This particular week, there was a team where the opposing coach was scouting C’s team the week before and hyping up his player that they were going to beat the team they were watching the following week. I saw this happen, so I mentioned it to C so I could see what would happen. C seemed extra motivated to win and was playing really hard.
The game was really close and C scored twice in two separate stints on the field, but the other team would score right back when subs came in. It was tied in the last few minutes where the best players on each side were on the field to try and win. As time was winding down, there was a ball that was somehow passed out to C towards the right side of the goal. He was pretty far away and still decided to shoot it. I really didn’t know what to expect.
As C was blasting the ball, it was actually a really hard kick and it rocketed past a few players and into the side of the goal. It was an amazing shot and I was shocked that it all happened so quickly. I let out an OHHHHHH and my wife called me embarrassing. I was excited for C, but I think I would have been almost equally as excited if any other kid did that. It was that good of a goal, at least for some young kids.
C was so happy that they won. He was working so hard and I know he felt awesome scoring that last goal. It was his first hat trick in that league and it couldn’t come at a better time against a really good team. I also now know he is crazy competitive. With that extra motivation to win, he put it all behind that last shot. I better keep practicing soccer or else he will start to smoke me in 1-2 more years!
