Rotten-ing
Sometimes I try to sneak a bit of football and basketball into the routine when it is a big or interesting game. We were watching the Denver Nuggets play one night and my 5 year old son C thought that was a silly name. He asked me who I wanted to win the game and I said not the Nuggets. We wanted to cook the Nuggets. He laughed.
A few days later, we were watching football and one of the teams were getting crushed. C excitedly said that the team that was doing well was rotten-ing the other team. A smile popped on my face because it clicked in my head that C was using how we talk about bad food and applying it to the game.
I told C that it was very clever. We actually do use food descriptions to talk about how the game is going - cooked (bad), cooking (good), cold (bad), hot (good), etc. Kids do say some funny things and honestly, it’s all very creative and endearing!
