Robot Sushi
When my 7 year old daughter E and 5 year old son C was traveling with me, I took them to a robot sushi restaurant one day for lunch. Both of them love sushi (ironically) and they really wanted to eat some during our trip. I finally relented so I could get some warm matcha tea for my throat and a much needed caffeine boost.
They were both super excited when we walked in the restaurant. There was also a prize if you ate enough plates, which I warned them not to fight over if we somehow hit the mark to get something. When we finally sat down, they started devouring the sushi. Plate after plate was gone and they loved the salmon sushi quite a bit. I made sure to get them some edamame so they could eat some vegetables.
When my matcha tea came, a robot brought it to me. E and C were so amused and they loved it. Then they went back to devouring sushi. After a few minutes, it was clear that we would clear the hurdle for a prize. I warned them about not fighting over it since we would likely only get one prize. They agreed and then after we paid, the prize came out.
It was a little magnet and they wanted to share it. The sharing lasted for only a few minutes and the fighting started. I wasn’t feeling the best, so I told them to stop fighting multiple times while trying to slog through the afternoon. I wish I personally could have enjoyed the lunch more, but at least E and C loved the experience, the robot, the sushi, and the gimmicky prize that they fought for during the remainder of the trip. Fast forward a few weeks and I don’t know where that magnet is. I’m sure they don’t know either. That’s the life of a parent for you.
