New Sleep Routine

We are trying a new sleep routine so I can get a bit more quality sleep. It started with the long weekend where halfway through, I started to sleep in a separate room to get higher quality sleep. I have been needing to shed this stubborn cough for about two weeks now and more sleep can only help.

It helped that my 6 year old daughter E went to sleep over at her cousins and one of her cousins came to sleep over the next day. It kick started the new sleep routine and my hope is E and her 4 year old brother C would stay in their rooms until their Hatch light turned into a rainbow color. They shouldn’t get out of bed to bother my wife and their 1 year old brother L too early in the morning. Despite knowing the rule, actually following it is another story.

The first few days, C has been getting out of bed in the middle of the night and going over to my wife and L. It was a problem the first night where he kept both of them up. After that, he has been sneaking in and going g straight to sleep. E also snuck in and slept with them because one night she realized she was sleeping alone since C left the room. She got scared and tried to sleep in the room with everyone else, but she was so uncomfortable that she kept everyone up all night. The day after that, C hit E early in the morning and there was a full blown tantrum to start the day. Luckily my wife calmed them down and put E back to sleep.

After a few nights of chaos for my wife, I was asking her whether she wanted to go back to the old routine where I would sleep on the ground next to E and C so they didn’t come and bother her. My wife declined and she said it would slowly get better. We are still staying the course and it has slowly started to get better. C has been sleeping in longer and also being quiet when sneaking away. E has been staying in the room to sleep longer all by herself. Sometimes, change is hard for kids and there is an adjustment period. I’m glad we are through most of it and fingers crossed it will continue to get better.
