Musical Performance Part 1

The school my kids go to usually hosts an annual musical performance for the parents. They try to do different songs and mix the grade levels together so that they can put on something magical for everyone. Sometimes they even have some of the older classes play instruments. It’s really cute.

This was the first time that my 5 year old son C got to participate since he was in kindergarten. I was really excited to see him seeing with his classmates. We got there a bit early and got some spots in the shade outside. It was a beautiful early evening.

C saw his best friend and they were excited to be together. I don’t know why, but they decided to be all of the way in the back. It was hard to even see their faces outside of them, jumping up and down like frogs and goofing off. They somewhat saying most of the songs. The music teacher was also very forgiving because I think they were a pretty big distraction for their entire class.

I filmed all of the songs and got to see C all the way in the back a few times in the videos. We watched a few of them when we got back and I told him that I wish he stood near the front. I wanted to capture that memory a little bit better.

I also wanted to point out that he should try and follow directions while not being a huge distraction next time. Even though him and his best friend were having fun, I’m not sure if it was bothering the other kids or parents. We just want to be more considerate in a setting like that because it’s a special time for everyone who was there.

C said he understood. I hope he takes the lesson to heart and that I can get some better videos of him next year. I’m sure that I’ll give him a few reminders as well before that time comes. Even though the videos didn’t turn out the way that I wanted it to, I was still happy that we all got to share and that first performance for C. That’s parenthood in a nutshell.
