First Birthday Part 1

My baby boy L is officially 1 now. It is a huge milestone and I can’t believe he is growing up so quickly. It doesn’t seem like a year has gone by, but when I think of the various stages we have been in from tummy time to full blown running (and everything in between), it seems like so much has happened. What a year it has been.

We celebrated L’s birthday with family and some close friends. It was a relatively small gathering and there was lots of food and fun. Logan had a great time walking around and exploring all the faces of familiar and unfamiliar people. He also liked to look at some of the other babies in attendance. L is a very curious one and maybe even a social butterfly at his young age!

When he got tired at the birthday party, I got a chance to put down to take his nap. We got to cuddle up and even though I was stressed about other things, it was great to be able to cuddle with him to relax. He has a way of putting everything in perspective for me and even a little smile or cuddle means the world. I was so comfortable snuggling with him for his nap that I ended up taking one as well!

By the time it was almost cake time, I woke up and started to get him ready to come down. I was excited to see if L would actually smash his smash cake (my two older kids did not). My dog had already taken a layer out of the cake before the party even started since he jumped on the counter and took a huge bite out of it, so there was a more modest two layer cake waiting to be smashed. When my wife set it in front of L, he followed the same pattern as my older two kids and just played with the frosting a bit. There was no smashing to be had.

All in all, it was a successful birthday and my wife was so happy that the party went well. She was stressed out about it all week, but she did a great job getting everything ready (while I tried to keep the kids away most of the week). She even blew up a bunch of balloons and had a ballon rook for L to play in, which was a hit for days. It was a good time and we got to reflect on the year that was - a grateful year for one of our biggest surprises of our lives in L.
