Big Cut Foot
With being back at work the last few weeks, I’ve been able to get home at a reasonable time each day. As a family, we have adjusted to the new routines and it’s nice having some level of stability. There was a day I did need to stay late a few weeks ago and that’s when chaos happened.
This was the first day I needed to stay late since I started work. I thought everything would be fairly normal and was just sad that I would miss dinner with the family. My wife already knew I was staying late, so she had made dinner early before needing to pick the kids up from daycare and summer camp (luckily it’s all in one place!). Pickup was fairly normal and I was wrapping up with work to try and rush home.
As I got in the car to drive home, my wife texted me a picture of a big cut in her foot. She told me she dropped a plate on it! I thought she meant a plate that you use for weightlifting. It confused me so much because how would she have time to work out while our three kids were home? It was also such a big cut that I called her to see if she needed to go to the doctor.
My wife said the cut was pretty bad and she got it to stop bleeding, but could really walk around without it starting. Our 1 year old son L was also scared because he knew is Mommy was hurt. Of course he didn’t understand specifics, yet somehow as we were talking about the foot, he started to whine. We tested it off and on giving breaks to when we talked about the foot and he always whined when we got to the topic. My poor empathetic baby!
The next few days were rough and my wife couldn’t really walk around, but finally started to heal and the wound closed up. We now joke around that it’ll remind us of the first day I stayed late at work. It also reminds us about how little kids are much more perceptive and they understand a lot more than we even give them credit for.
